When you first log into your Qlik Sense environment, the interface will be slightly different depending on the product and version of the product your employer is using. The biggest differences will be between Qlik Cloud and on-premise Qlik Sense environments. This article will cover:

  • How to tell which environment your company is using
  • User interface of the home page (hub) in the Cloud
  • User interface of the home page (hub) of the on-premise version

How to determine which Qlik your company uses

To get the most out of the guides on this website, you should know which Qlik Sense environment your company uses. To determine this, log in to Qlik.

In the upper right corner, click on your initials and click ‘About’. There will be a pop-up on your screen. If that pop-up contains any sections with the word ‘Tenant’ or words ‘Qlik Cloud’ in it, this is the Cloud version of Qlik Sense. Otherwise, this is the on-premise version of Qlik. Note that your employer may be using both on-premise and Cloud hosted versions. This would mean that you have two different URLs to access Qlik by.

Qlik Cloud home page (hub)

In the Cloud, the hub will look similar to this:

The sections are:

  1. The left sidebar menu
  2. The main screen
  3. The top bar
  4. The connect widget

The left sidebar menu

This is your navigation menu. There are a few sections here. The main ones to know about are ‘Home’, which is the home page, and ‘Catalog’, which is the content in Qlik. It will show any apps, charts, notes, data, etc., as long as you have been access to them. There are also a couple of important sections called ‘Alerts’ and ‘Subscriptions’. These show any alerts or subscriptions you have subscribed to.

The main screen

This is where you see the content mentioned above, depending on what menu item you click on. By default, when you log in, you see the ‘Home’ screen. You can customise what this shows by clicking on ‘Customize your home’.

The top bar

The most important section of the top bar is the search bar. If you’re looking for something specific, you can enter the search term here and click enter. The search result will be the ‘Catalog’ filtered to anything that is relevant to your search term.

The connect widget

This is just a helpful learning resource. You can check it out if you want, as it contains links to useful help guides.

Qlik Sense on-premise home page (hub)

The hub in a Qlik Sense on-premise environment will look like this:

  1. The top bar
  2. The profile
  3. The main menu
  4. Personal space
  5. Streams
  6. The main screen

The top bar

The top bar consists of just a few interactable sections with the most important one being the search.

The profile

Clicking on your profile gives you the option to log out and also shows you your username.

The main menu

The main menu is a way for you to adjust your view by toggling how the apps are sorted and changing how they are displayed in a list.

Personal space

The personal space is the upper section of the left sidebar. Note that you aren’t likely to have all the sections shown in the screenshot above because the screenshot shows a developer’s view. The most useful section for you is the ‘Favourites’ section, which lists any apps you added to your favourites.

Streams

Streams are a way the developers organise apps in the on-premise environment. Each stream will contain a group of apps that serve a specific purpose. For example, you may have a stream per department in your organisation.

The main screen

This is where the apps from the stream or a personal section you have selected are shown.
