This article will cover the interface of a Qlik Sense app and sheet from the user’s perspective. Please note that your Qlik Sense version may look slightly different to the pictures throughout this article.

The app overview interface

When you open a Qlik Sense app, you will see the app overview. It will look similar to this:

The various elements of interest to the user are:

  1. The top bar
  2. The app information
  3. The app content selector
  4. The app content

The top bar

The top bar is used for navigation. The most useful features, from left to right, are the sheet button, storytelling button and the app name button.

The sheet button will take you to the first sheet in the app. The storytelling button will take you to the app stories feature. Finally, clicking on the app’s name toggles section 2 to open and close. Section 2 is the app information.

The app information

The app information contains the description of what the app is supposed to be for. Note that this is written by the app developer, so depending on your company’s processes, it may be left blank. The other useful bit of information is the ‘Data last loaded’ date. Note this date because it tells you when the app was last updated.

The app content selector

This bar lets you toggle what you see in the app content area. By default, you will see the ‘Sheets’. The sheets contain the various visualisations your developers created. You can toggle to see the ‘Bookmarks‘ or ‘Stories’ instead. Using the buttons on the right, you can also change the display style of the sheets.

The app content

The app content shows the sheets by default. Using the button above, you can toggle to view the stories or bookmarks instead. To view a sheet, just click on the one you’re interested in.

The sheet interface

When you’re viewing a sheet, it will look similar to this:

The various elements are:

  1. The top bar
  2. The sheet bar
  3. The sheet name and navigation
  4. The sheet grid

The top bar

For the most part, the top bar in a sheet is the same as it is in the app overview. There are two important differences. One is that if you click on the ellipsis on the left, you will see the option to go back to the ‘App Overview’. The other is that you can now see the ‘Ask Insight Advisor’ option. The insight advisor helps you answer questions using the data inside this app. Note that your developers have the option to disable this feature.

The sheet bar

The sheet bar is very useful for users. From left to right, this is what it contains:

  • The notes toggle: clicking the ‘notes’ button will open the notes relating to the space this app is in. Note this is only relevant to the Cloud version of Qlik Sense.
  • The insight advisor: clicking the ‘insight advisor’ button will open the insight advisor, which you can use to answer questions using data in this app.
  • The filtering pane: the filter pane contains buttons for working with filters, such as undo, redo, clear all and smart search. It also shows any fields in which you have applied filters. You can interact with these. The rightmost button will take you to the selections pane, where you will see all filters applied and all the fields in the app so you can set filters otherwise unavailable in the app.
  • The bookmarks button: the ‘bookmarks’ button opens a list of bookmarks in this app. You can also create a new bookmark here.
  • The sheets button: the ‘sheets’ button opens a list of sheets in this app. You can use this to navigate to another sheet.
  • The duplicate button: clicking the ‘duplicate’ button will make a copy of this sheet and put it into your workspace so you can build it up. Note that this is only available if you have ‘create’ permissions on this app.

The sheet name and navigation

This is just a small section of the sheet which shows the name of the sheet you’re viewing on the left. On the right, you will see arrows to navigate to the next or previous sheet.

The sheet grid

The sheet grid is where you can see all the visualisations built by your developers.
