Once your Qlik Sense app is published and accessible by users, you will likely want the data within to refresh automatically. This is done by using tasks. Tasks are a way for you to tell Qlik which apps should be refreshed, what time, and how frequently. This article will explain how to reload a Qlik Sense app by creating a new task using the on-premise Qlik Sense versions and in the Qlik Cloud.

Note: descriptions and images within his article may look different to your Qlik Sense due to product and version differences.

Reloading apps in an on-premise environment using the QMC

You must use the Qlik Management Console (QMC) to create a reload task in the on-premise version of Qlik Sense. Here, navigate to the ‘Tasks’ section. At the bottom here, click the ‘+ Reload task’ button. You will then enter the task creation screen.

In this screen, enter a task name and use the ‘select app’ button to select which app you want this task to reload.

The ‘Triggers’ section is where you specify how and when the app should be reloaded. To create a new trigger, click ‘Actions’ and choose a suitable trigger from the dropdown list. Note: the trigger type of ‘task event’ means that your task will reload due to an outcome of another task that already exists, such as success or failure. To use this option, you will need to select the trigger task. This is a good way to chain tasks so that they follow each other in the order that meets your needs. All other options allow you to specify the frequency and time of the reload and do not depend on other tasks.

Reloading apps in a Qlik Sense SaaS environment (Qlik Cloud)

Note that in a Qlik Cloud environment, if you are using Qlik Sense for Business and NOT the enterprise version, you do not have the ability to chain tasks.

To create a task in Qlik Cloud, you must locate your app in the normal Qlik Analytics Services environment. Click on the ellipsis to see the options available regarding your app. Choose ‘Reload schedule’ and ‘Add schedule’ on the pop-up.

You will now see a pop-up for creating the reload schedule. Follow each section top to bottom and fill in the relevant details such as the task’s frequency, time and duration.
