In Qlik Sense, developers create apps and fill them with sheets and visualisations. Users consume apps to answer business questions. An app is a collection of sheets that contain visualisations. Each app will have its own data model and all the sheets and visualisations within an app can utilise that data model.

In order to build an app, you have to initiate the process. This is what’s covered in this article. How you can do this will depend on the Qlik Sense product you use.

Qlik Sense on-premise

For on-premise Qlik deployments, the ‘Create new app’ button will be located in your ‘work’ area in the hub. Below, ‘D’ is where the link to your ‘work’ area is located. The button to create a new app is at ‘C’. Clicking this will immediately launch the new app in a new browser tab.

Qlik Sense using Qlik Cloud

The easiest way of launching a new app in the Qlik Cloud is by using the ‘Add new’ > ‘New analytics app’ buttons in the top bar.

This will launch a pop-up where you can enter the app name, description and tags. You can also select a space where this app will reside. All these settings can be changed after.

Another way to create a new app is by uploading a data file. When you upload a data file, it becomes a dataset. As part of the upload process, you can select to ‘Upload and analyze’ the file. This will launch a new app with the dataset loaded and ready for analysis. See uploading a data file for further information on uploading data files.

Once you have launched the new app, there are multiple interfaces you need to familiarise yourself with before you can start loading the data for your analysis.
