This article will cover the interface of a Qlik Sense app’s vocabulary screen. The vocabulary teaches Qlik’s AI how to interpret what users are asking the insight advisor and how to relate those questions to the fields available in the app. Note that some features of the interface may look slightly different depending on the product and version you are using.

The ability to teach the insight advisor relevant vocabulary is really useful because your users are likely to use jargon that is different to the field names in the app. For example, sales could be referred to as sales, purchases, spend, transactions, revenue etc.

The vocabulary screen looks like this:

It consists of:

  1. The app top bar
  2. The vocabulary top bar
  3. The main screen

The app top bar

The app top bar is the top bar visible on every page of the app. See ‘App Overview Interface’ for further information on the top bar.

The vocabulary top bar

The vocabulary top bar allows you to switch the main screen between x3 views: ‘Synonyms’, ‘Custom analysis’ and ‘Example questions’.

The main screen

The main screen changes depending on what option is selected in the vocabulary top bar.

Synonyms

When the ‘Synonyms’ view is selected, you get the option to ‘Create terms’.

When you have created some terms, those will be visible in a list for each field. You still get the button to add new terms but you can also edit/ delete existing terms.

Custom analysis

The custom analysis screen is where you can define keywords or phrases that relate to a specific type of analysis. Before you have defined the terms, the screen just shows the ‘Create terms’ button. Once terms are added, you can see the terms per analysis type and you can edit/ delete existing terms.

Example questions

The example questions screen allows you to add questions that the insight advisor will show to users when they first open it in the app. As the other sections, before any questions are added, there is just the ‘Add question’ button. Once questions are added, those are shown in a list. Existing questions can be edited or deleted.
